Techniques
Taekwondo training can broadly be classed into three main aspects; poomsae, sparring and basics. Techniques form the basis of all Taekwondo training and each area is interlinked. Below, you can learn more about the different types of techniques you’ll encounter in training, with links to the relevant pages.
Kicks
Kicks are the most well-known aspect of Taekwondo training and compared to other martial arts this style uses them with much greater frequency. There is a wide range of kicking techniques used in Taekwondo. Follow the link below to learn more.
Blocks
Blocking techniques are a vital part of self-defence and are present in all poomsae. Blocks start from basics and become increasingly complex as you progress through the grades, though the basic techniques should always be strong.
Strikes
Strikes can take a number of forms, including punches, thrusts and knife hand strikes. Each of these has strengths and weaknesses depending on the situation, and are used in poomsae, as well as set sparring and self-defence.
Stances
In any martial art, stances are vital to all aspects as they turn techniques into combinations. Correct use of stances can not only improve your stability but give your techniques more power. In sparring, stances are particularly important.
